The five of us all had the lunchtime special meals, which are reasonably priced, and enjoyed by all. I had the Panang Chicken Curry, which I found fresh, tasty, and authentic.

Often Thai food in Australia seems to have more 'fat and glug' about it, but there was none of this here and the vegetables in the meal were fresh, beautifully cooked and with plenty of crunch. The table service was prompt and polite, and our meals were delivered soon enough for us not to wonder when they were coming.

The restaurant inside is styled tastefully, with a medium sized seating area. It was a beautiful late-May day, so we chose to sit out in the larger covered al fresco dining area behind the restaurant. This is also styled suitably to for the restaurant, and charmingly backs onto the lake at Narrabeen.

If you choose to sit out the back you can expect a great view of the lake and occasional cyclists, dog walkers, and joggers whizzing by. The proximity to the lake and walking path is close enough for you to feel part of it, but the activity is never distracting, and there is enough cover that you still feel you have privacy.

Saying that you will still have the occasional duck waddling up to your table to say hello. Which makes me kind of glad I didn't order the duck.

I'm sure I'll be back soon!

I love a good suburban restaurant, they are usually family run, lovely food and good value. Although Rice and Lake might be a dollar or two more expensive per dish than the average suburban Thai restaurant, that is because the food is most definitely better than average. Thus it is still excellent value for money. The courtyard dining area out the back is right on Narrabeen lakes so it has an amazing outlook to boot. Great for families, the kids can play out on the grass in full view of the courtyard dining area out the back (where you want to sit anyway).

We dined on a Sunday evening and with daylight savings, enjoyed an absolutely beautiful evening. There were four of us and three starters, three mains and rice was enough food and at under $100 was never going to break to bank. All dishes were very lovely with the Betel Leaf Mieng Kham starter (a dressed prawn, coconut, peanut beef and more salad you wrap inside a betel leaf) being a stand-put and the beef Pha Naeng Curry especially delicious.

Highly recommended if you are in the area and with family now in the area, dining here will most definitely be on regular rotation.

BTW, this restaurant is now called "Rice and Lake".

Wouldn't recommend the Glazed Lamb, tasteless sauce and the lamb was like eating an old shoe.
